The Lewis Barry Memorial Ride

Following a massively successful first ride last year in which nearly 200 riders crossed the Pennines from the National Cycling Centre in Manchester to Lewis' home town of Garforth, a 48 mile circular route based on Lewis' favourite training circuit has been chosen for this year's race. 

It is hoped that this will attract newcomers as well as all his friends who took part in last year's event. Last year Lewis' aunt Mandy Bishop (1982 World Road Race Champion) led a large group of celebrity riders who were all friends of Lewis including Craig McLean, Hannah Barnes, Chris Lawless, Brian Robinson, Chris Walker and many others.  Lewis was a hugely popular and talented young rider who died suddenly on 29th June 2011 from SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) at only 15 years of age.

The ride will start Garforth taking in Church Fenton, Selby, Cawood, Ryther, Ulleskelf, Tadcaster, Bramham, Thorner, Scholes and Barwick before returning to Garforth.  Participants will receive a commemorative wristband and there will be the possibility to buy refreshments at the HQ finish planned for Garforth Academy.

The purpose of the ride is to raise funds for two charities, CRY - Cardiac Risk in the Young and The Dave Rayner Memorial Fund
