Rider Diary: Tracy Moseley
Interview with Tracy Moseley - September 2009
Britain's most established female downhiller, Tracy Moseley has been racing at the highest level for 15 years and is one of the only gravity racers to have won a round of both the downhill and fourcross World Cup, alongside multiple national titles and the prestigeous UCI Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup in 2006. With only the rainbow stripes elluding the Malvern-based rider, 2010 and Mont St. Anne would be an apt counterpoint to Steve Peat's astonishing World Championship title in 2009. Life in the snow
Well I can't believe that is January done already. The winter really does seem to go fast and I sure chose a lovely winter to stay in the UK and not be tempted off to the sun, as it's been pretty damn cold out there for bike riding! Well not that it was even possible to ride for the first week or so of the month as we had a pretty good amount of snow, the most I have seen in years. It was actually pretty good fun for some sledging, snowboarding behind the quad bike and sledging on a surfboard...all pretty good activities, but still recovering from my hip op, I really didn't think I should be having a go. I did however venture offroad for the first time in 3 months, mainly because it was just too dangerous to go out in the road bike! It was so good to be back off road and the first few rides I did were on the Malverns in the snow....pretty tough rides but great for the bike handling skills!!
I had the all clear from the surgeon for my hip and with the nod from him and the British Cycling Physio I started doing a lot more off road riding and even dusted off the DH bike for some playtime up in the local woods. It really didn't feel like I hadn't ridden my DH bike for so long, it felt pretty normal straight away to be sliding sideways down the hill in the mud, great fun. I have also continued with my love of the rollers, mastering some new skills, trying the no handed pedalling and one leg and opposite arm stuff. You have to find a way of keeping entertained whilst riding indoors!
I have started back at the gym which was cool to get back into that, so all in all it's been a great month for me to get back to normal with my riding and training. I also did a little bit of filming with the Parkin brothers on my winter training for the Dirt Website, so keep an eye out for that over the next few weeks.
I also went to watch a track race up at Manchester Velodrome, I think I was as impressed with the racing as I was with the skills of all the track riders on the rollers! One guy was on the rollers pinning his number onto his jersey - I have a long way to go to reach that level!
Well that's pretty much it for January, more DH riding and fun stuff to come in Feb and maybe even my first race of the year.
