Following the recent announcement and imminent restrictions on group riding activity coming into force on Friday, Welsh Cycling will once again resurrect a series of Zwift events catering for all levels of riders to get involved with.

Our clubs and groups have had a tough time this year with events unable to take place and additional measures put in place on group rides. Whilst we all have to abide by the rules during these challenging times we want to offer some opportunities for every club and member to engage with a series of rides and races which will also give your affiliated club the opportunity to win back the standard cost of affiliation as we head into 2021.

Rhys James, Welsh Cycling’s Event Officer, said: “It’s great to offer our members the opportunity to take part in another round of races on Zwift. The summers series went really well, we saw the desire was there even when restrictions on people's movements were minimal. We want to offer at least two races per week for our clubs to take part in over the coming lockdown period and if the appetite remains this could be the way forward for the racing community this winter.”

Participants gained an entry for each completed stage into the draw to win a Limar helmet. The format proved popular in allowing all riders equal opportunity to win a prize and is why this is being replicated with the opportunity for affiliated clubs to win back the standard cost of this years affiliation.

Dan Coast, South East Wales Development Officer, said: “We recognise it’s been a tough year for our clubs and wanted to create an opportunity that would allow the membership to take part in.

We know the make up of many clubs is a real cross section of the cycling community from social cyclists through to racing members so we are really happy to include a wide range of rides into our list of Zwift events to replicate the diversity of club activities. So every member has the opportunity to take part in a suitable event and help your club in these difficult times,” Dan continued.

There are a few simple steps needed in order for club members to take part:

  1. Register an account with Zwift Power (We need this to track riders’ position and completion of counting events)
  2. Register to take part in the series,  SIGN UP HERE
  3. Take part and share your rides/ images/ screen shots with us via our Strava club.

The Zwift platform allows anyone on any bike to take part, you don’t need to have a smart turbo trainer and power sensors to enjoy a ride in the virtual word. Check out or guide to setting up Zwift on a budget below.

To be eligible for the prize draw clubs will need to have completed the affiliation process by the 9th of November. Further details on how to affiliate your club can be found here
