Following the creation of Scottish Cycling’s new strategy ‘Developing a Nation of Cyclists’, we have made changes to our staffing structure to put club development at the heart of what we do and to make sure that we are able to support clubs in the best way possible. We are therefore pleased to announce the creation of the Club Development Team. This team will replace the Regional Development Team, which will no longer operate from the end of November 2019.

The Club Development Team will focus on working with clubs to help them to be progressive, inclusive and safe. We will work with clubs to grow their membership and get more women and young people involved in our sport. We will work with clubs to recruit, retain, reward and develop more volunteers. We will work with clubs to establish pathways into clubs from schools and community groups, as well as ensuring a connection to talent development and our performance programmes. The Club Development Team will also work through the Regional Development Groups to provide a platform for working together at a local level.

Scottish Cycling is also committed to growing events, aiming to increase the number of entrants and the quality of events by 2023. This work will be led by the Events Team who are best placed to support events and ensure there is a pathway in all disciplines.  The Club Development Team will work with the Events Team to develop events underpinned by a strong network of clubs and volunteers.

Why are we making these changes?

In 2018 over 2000 people told us what they thought about cycling, through consultation for our ‘Developing a Nation of Cyclists’ strategy. The input and feedback received guided the creation of our new strategy, ensuring it reflects the aspirations of our community and sets out our aspirations to develop a nation of cyclists

Below is an outline of some of the actions we have taken as a result of the feedback we received through the consultation.

Information regarding the recruitment and appointment of the Club Development Team will be available on the Scottish Cycling website, or by emailing ClubDevelopment@scottishcycling.org.uk
