Curtis Manaton proved too good for the field as he cruised to back-to-back wins in the latest rounds of the HSBC UK | National BMX Series.

Manaton was too good in Rounds 11 and 12 in the men’s superclass as Bethany Shriever and Charlotte Green shared the victories in the women’s championship.

Dream double for Manaton

Perfect conditions greeted the riders on day one in Gosport where Manaton got back to winning ways after missing out on top spot in Telford earlier this month.

Manaton was locked in a tight battle with Callum Strickland in the first race, edging out his rival in a close battle as Eddie Moore finished off the podium places.

Testing conditions met the riders on the Sunday but Manaton revelled in the weather, dominating the field to strengthen his position at the top of the table.

The BMX rider admits Sunday was testing but he couldn’t complain about back-to-back victories.

He said: “The weather was great day one the track was really fast and flowing, one of my favourite tracks around at the moment for sure.

“Day two was more challenging. The heavy rain and winds lead to probably the worst conditions I’ve ever raced in.

“Credit to the British Cycling officials and all volunteers for sticking it out and continuing the race hats off to you, thanks very much.

“Pleased to pick up the win both days and happy with how I felt out there, time to look forward to the last few races of the season at the British Championships.”

Shriever and Green lead the way

Beth Shriever came into the event in imperious form having taken rounds nine and 10 of the women’s championship in Telford.

And victory in round 11 looked to have the rider well on her way to another weekend double but rival Charlotte Green, who ran her close on Saturday, had other ideas.

The former junior world champion could only finish fifth in round 12, allowing Green to take the round.

Shriever said: “I just didn’t get the best of start and Charlotte came to the outside and kept pushing then everyone came underneath then I gave up at the end. It was a pretty rubbish day all round.”

For Green it was a positive result and was delighted to get the final victory.

She said: “That’s got to have been some of the worst conditions I have ever raced in. The last time it was this bad was Bournemouth and the track was flooded and the race cancelled so at least they managed to but on the race.

“I managed to stay really warm and dry after the motos so I think that did me a massive favour, and then of course I got a really good start, so pretty pleased with that.

“Gosport has got to be one of the best tracks I’ve ridden in a long time, it flows so well and pretty much suits everyone and of course it really suited me.”
