The Mercedes-Benz UCI Mountain Bike World Cup heads to Canada this weekend for the penultimate round of the season.

Mont-Saint-Anne plays host with both downhill and cross-country riders set for action.

Cross-country

Commonwealth champion Annie Last (KMC-EKOI-SRSUNTOUR) is set for the startline in Canada – looking to bounce back from disappointment at the European Championships in Glasgow.

The reigning world championships silver medallist did not finish the race in Scotland and currently stands 15th in the world cup rankings.

Annie Last

Last will be keen to finish the world cup season strongly with the world championships in Lenzerheide just around the corner.

Evie Richards (Trek Factory Racing XC) currently sits third in the under-23 women’s rankings after three second place finishes in a row in the world cup.

Richards has not finished lower than third this season and claimed both the under-23 national title and a win in the final round of the HSBC UK | National Cross-country Series in recent weeks.

Downhill

A battle of Britain is in store in the elite women’s downhill competition.

Rachel Atherton (Trek Factory Racing DH) and Tahnee Seagrave (Transition Bikes / Muc-Off Factory Racing) occupy the top two places in the world cup rankings – the only riders to have scored over 900 points so far this season.

Rachel Atherton

It is Atherton who leads, but Seagrave who is in the better form, having won both of the last two rounds this season.

It is also a return to a happy hunting ground for Seagrave who won in Canada twelve months ago for just her second-ever world cup round victory.

Newly-crowned national champion Katy Curd will also be in action in Canada – hoping to move into the world cup top ten.

In the men’s competition, France’s Amaury Pierron seems to have virtually wrapped up the world cup title, but Britain’s Laurie Greenland is still in the hunt for a top-two finish.

Currently third, the MS Mondraker Team rider is only seven points behind Loris Vergier of France and will look to overhaul his rival this weekend.

Former world champion Danny Hart (Madison Saracen Factory Team) is currently fifth in the standings after consecutive top five finishes, while Reece Wilson and Adam Brayton (Hope Technology) are also currently in the top 20.
