Double gold for Bate and Duggleby at National Para-cycling Road Championships

Paralympic champions Steve Bate and Adam Duggleby claimed both the time trial and road race golds at the 2018 National Para-cycling Road Championships in Rochford.

The tandem duo dominated in both races to earn their national champions’ jerseys in Essex.

Bate (Para-T) and Duggleby were almost five minutes quicker than any of their rivals in the time trial, stopping the clock over 32km in just under 40 minutes.

Over the circuit road race, the pair completed 19 laps within the hour allowed, one more than any other duo.

Matthew Robertson (Woolwich CC) claimed both C2 titles while Alex Brooke-Turner (Dulwich Paragon CC) also completed a men’s H4/5 clean sweep.

Great Britain Cycling Team’s Will Bjergfelt (Team Tor 2000 Kalas) picked up the C5 time trial title with teammate Ben Watson (Glossop Kinder Velo Cycling Club) claiming the C3 honours.

George Peasgood won C4 time trial gold, with Dan Hopwood taking the H3 title. Frances Brown (Lea Valley CC) was crowned women’s time trial champion.

Luke Jones went one lap further than any other H3 contender to win the road race gold, with Chloe Selman (Rockingham CC) winning the women’s race.

Christopher Moores (Norwood Paragon CC) won C5 road race gold, with Craig Preece (Army Cycling Union) winning the C4 race and Finlay Graham (Glasgow Cycle Team) coming out on top in the C3 race.
