AGM date and new co-opted board director confirmed at Welsh Cycling Board Meeting

New board member, Graham Barker; father of welsh elite cyclists Elinor and Megan Barker joined the latest board meeting which took place on 4th June at Sport Wales.

A date was also confirmed for the Welsh Cycling AGM, which will take place on 18th September at 6pm at the Welsh institute of sport, with VC facilities for both North and West Wales.

Head coach Darren Tudor and Performance director Matt Cosgrove were also present; where they summarised the success of the Welsh Cycling team at Gold Coast.

Not only were they pleased with the six medals that were achieved; both highlighted how the riders worked incredibly well together as a team to support each other during the races, and how each rider achieved a personal best during their performances.

Ruth Adams, Communications officer updated the board on recent media activity including the recent Let’s Ride Cardiff event. The family cycling festival which took place on 13th May, saw Cardiff close its roads and 5,500 people on bikes during the day, an increase from 4,000 last year. Smaller scale versions of the event, Let’s ride pop ups’ have now been established within Cardiff at Llandaff fields, with the next event taking place on the 24th June.

In addition, the launch of the HSBC Ready Set Ride, the Wales 360 event, riverside family bike rides, and the recent announcement of the Tour of Britain opening stage starting in Carmarthenshire for the very first time.

The board were also updated the current volunteers and coaching week campaign and upcoming activity including women’s tour of Britain, the opening of Pembrey Closed Road Circuit and National Bike Week, which will be communicated over the next month.
