Gabriel Cullaigh took a sensational win in the 2018 CiCLE Classic in the East Midlands yesterday.

The Team Wiggins rider outsprinted Karol Domagalski (One Pro Cycling) - himself the winner of the opening round of the HSBC UK | Spring Cup Series at the Chorley Grand Prix one week earlier.

The two riders found themselves in a break of seven in the closing stages, joined by Koos Kers (WPGA Amsterdam), Connor Swift and Erick Rowsell (both Madison Genesis), Peter Williams (One Pro Cycling) and Thomas Stewart (JLT Condor).

But Cullaigh and Domagalski saw their rivals off one-by-one, with the Polish rider making the first move in the closing section of the race.

Yorkshireman Cullaigh was determined not to be beaten, however, and held Domagalski’s wheel before passing him for a famous win.

After the race, the Team Wiggins rider couldn’t contain his happiness. Speaking to @CiCLEClassic, he said:

“It was brilliant for me, great for the team. It just feels fantastic.

“It was hard, good fun as well. A war of attrition really, but good!”
