Cycling can help to create a happier workplace.

The benefits of recreational cycling are well reported, with improvements seen in people’s mental and physical well-being after just a short period of time in the saddle. Long-term benefits of physical activity include a reduction in risk of non-communicable disease and a lower incidence of absenteeism due to health.

The provision of outdoor physical activity opportunities by an organisation or group has the potential to bring great health and wellbeing benefits to participants, as well as helping to create a strong team ethos and improving communication.

The recent increase in ‘Social Cycling’ groups across Wales has helped to provide thousands of accessible cycling opportunities for service users and employees, opportunities that have helped to build personal confidence and develop new practical skills for staff.

In order to help support those organisations who see value in cycling, Welsh Cycling has developed a range of free of charge tools to help your organisation cycle. As part of our vision to 'inspire Wales to cycle' we are looking to support, train and advise staff or willing volunteers to run rides from workplaces all over the country.

Our half-day informal workshops guide volunteer staff members through the first steps to get your workplace cycling, within a few hours, staff members should be confident in the creation and maintenance of a workplace cycling group. We will talk through the entire process and support the launch of your first ride, ride series or event. Staff will also have the tools to be able to advise colleagues and service users in best practices whilst commuting and route planning. With Welsh Cycling staff always close by to answer questions or to offer support, it won't be long before staff are feeling fitter, happier and healthier in your workplace!

Information regarding the development of cycling within your workplace is available free of charge to organisations or members of the public living or working in Wales.
