British Cycling Academy riders Ethan Hayter, Matt Walls, Pfeiffer Georgi and Anna Docherty showed that the future of British track cycling was in good hands this weekend, as the youngsters took the elite titles at the British Cycling National Madison Championships at the Lee Valley Velodrome.
Senior Academy riders Hayter and Walls had tough competition from team mates Jake Stewart and Joe Holt and their Junior Academy counterparts Will Tidbull and Ethan Vernon throughout the race, but by winning nine of the twenty sprints and taking a lap over the rest of the field, the pair ensured themselves a victory.
The women's race was nail-bitingly close between the Junior Academy's Georgi and Docherty and Senior Academy riders Jenny Holl and Jess Roberts.
Holl and Roberts were trailing by five points with one sprint remaining and won the double points available by crossing the line in first place.
Only one point separated them from snatching the victory, but by taking six points in the final sprint, Georgi and Docherty did just enough to take the title.
