Welsh Cycling are pleased to support the redevelopment project of the Carmarthen Velodrome, which will open on Tuesday 24th October.

The track which first opened in 1900, has now been upgraded and safety fenced to bring it back into use as a training and competition venue for cyclists in West Wales.

The Mayor or Carmarthen Cllr Alun Lenny will cut the ribbon at 5:30pm at Carmarthen Park, assisted by Welsh professional riders Scott Davies and Amy Roberts.

Local Cycling club, Towy Riders will then take to the track for the first training session on the facility.

Chief Executive Officer at Welsh Cycling, Anne Adams-King said "This is an extremely exciting time for Cycling in Wales.

"Alot of hard work has gone into this project, and it's fantastic to see it finally coming together.

"I'd like to thank everyone from Carmarthenshire County Council, Town Council, Sport Wales, British Cycling and my colleagues at Welsh Cycling for making this happen.

"Having the opportunity to extend our offering of Cycling facilities in Wales is invaluable, and gives us even more scope to further developing and supporting the growth of our West Wales riders, just like Scott and Amy.

"We are extremely proud of their achievements and thrilled that they will be celebrating with us on Tuesday.

"We look forward to hopefully hosting many future cycling events at the venue".

In 2015, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Executive Board agreed to support the regeneration of the historic velodrome in Carmarthen with a capital funding contribution of £286,000. The funding has enabled a further £296,000 grant from Sport Wales, and will see the velodrome at Carmarthen Park become a regional centre of excellence for cycling.

Carmarthenshire Town Council said "We are proud to accounce that we have today had approval from British Cycling for the redeveloped Carmarthen Velodrome and it is fit for purpose."

"A warm welcome is extended to all to witness this historic occassion".
