Caleb Ewan won his third stage at the OVO Energy Tour of Britain, as he took advantage of an tiring peloton and sprinted to victory in Aldeburgh on stage six.

A breakaway of seven riders looked like they were going to make the break stick as they held off the might of the chasing pack until they were reeled in with just over three kilometres to go.

Attacks from British riders James Shaw of Lotto Soudal and Movistar’s Alex Dowsett failed to last the distance and they were swallowed up as the peloton gathered pace.

The narrow  and twisting lead in to the finishing straight meant that the sprinters’ teams struggled to get their trains in order and Orica Scott's Ewan found himself sprinting across the line with room to spare.

Geraint Thomas said of the day’s racing: “It was a tail wind most of the day so it was fast. The break rode really well, they went steady at first and then really picked it up. For a time it looked like we might not get them. Unfortunately for them and luckily for us we caught them.”

Caleb Ewan was delighted with his team's performance: "It was a tough day, the weather was pretty bad all day. The team rode so well - we stayed up out of trouble - they did a perfect job for me.”

The race continues on Saturday as the Tour of Britain starts in Hemel Hempstead for a lumpier stage, which finishes in Cheltenham.
