Welsh Cycling are accepting applications for the 2017/2018 Wales Youth and Junior Programmes. Both programmes will focus on the long term development of the athletes in the disciplines of road, track and mountain bike cross country.
Wales Youth Programme
For 2017/2018 the Wales Youth Programme will be inviting applications from riders who will be in Youth A (born in 2002 or 2003) and second year Youth B (2004) categories in 2018. The Wales Youth Programme will offer a combination of coaching and race exposure in:
- Endurance Track and Road
- Endurance Mountain Bike XCO and Road
- Track Sprint

The programme has a proven track record with several riders reaching the podium at the UCI Junior World Championships in recent years and graduating to the British Cycling Senior Academy. It’s a demanding programme to make sure the transition to the next level is achievable taking into account lifestyle and demands from other areas.
Applications are invited from riders who will be competing in the Junior category (born in 2000 or 2001) in 2018. Riders who have been competing nationally in Road, Track and Mountain Bike XCO disciplines will be considered for the programme. The Wales Junior Programme will offer:
- One to one coaching
- International racing experience
- Residential training camps
- Over 100 coach contact days per year
- Sports Wales Educational Programme
Application Process
Applications will be assessed w/c 2nd October 2017.
Applicants will be informed of the selections w/c 9th October 2017.
The deadline for applications for the Wales Junior Programme is 9.00pm Thursday 28th September 2017.
Applications will be assessed by Wales Cycling Team’s selection panel who will take into consideration factors such as race performances, technical ability, tactical awareness and general conduct. Successful athletes will be informed during the week commencing 9th October 2017.
