Great Britain Cycling Team’s Lauren Bate and Georgia Hilleard celebrated team sprint bronze on day one of the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Montichiari, Italy.
The Junior Academy riders saw off the challenge of Korea in the medal final to add to their junior European bronze in the same event.

Bate and Hilleard had qualified third fastest in 34.879 seconds, before defeating Australia in their first round tie to book a place in the medal final, setting a new British junior record of 34.856 seconds in the process.
Russia won gold as Germany took silver.
So close for GB’s men
Alistair Fielding, Hamish Turnbull and Lewis Stewart nearly added a second bronze but missed out by just 0.159 seconds as Poland grabbed the final podium spot after a thrilling duel.

Britain twice led but the Polish trio were able to take a slender advantage in the final lap to take bronze.
Fielding, Turnbull and Stewart had qualified third fastest in 45.127 seconds, then defeating Korea to keep their medal opes alive before the close fought race with Poland.
Russia won gold with Germany taking silver.

The championships, which run from 23-27 August, continue on Thursday with Great Britain in action in the women’s sprint and men’s keirin.
