Third for GB Cycling Team's Clacherty at Swiss MTB Cup

Great Britain Cycling Team’s Frazer Clacherty continued his good form of 2017 with third in the under-23 men’s race at the Swiss MTB Cup in Basel, which featured the UCI Junior XCO Series.

The British under-23 champion crossed the line just four seconds behind home riders Vital Albin and Nick Burki after a powerful two final last laps from the Briton, as Albin took the victory.

Richards and Last impress

In the elite women’s race, Senior Academy rider Evie Richards was fourth with British champion Annie Last fifth as both looked strong ahead of September’s UCI Mountain Bike World Championships.

Richards and Last, who have both won first world cups in 2017 in the under-23 and elite categories respectively, quickly established themselves in the top ten in Switzerland before powerful final laps secured a top-five position.

Home favourite Sina Frei was victorious with Jolanda Neff second and Alessandra Keller third.

Wright in the top ten

Junior Academy rider Sophie Wright was ninth in the junior women's race, the 18-year-old crossing the line in 1:06.47 with Emily Wadsworth taking 19th.

Austria’s Laura Stigger won in a sprint finish against Ronja Eibl of Germany.

Orr 11th in junior men

Cameron Orr was 11th in the junior men’s race, crossing the line one minute and 29 seconds behind winner Joel Roth.

Sean Flynn secured 20th place in a time of 1:13.16 with Callum Fernie 41st.

The Great Britain Cycling Team for the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships from 5-10 September in Cairns.
