Champions were crowned on the opening day of the British Cycling National Youth and Junior Track Championships in Newport.
Stars of the future took to the velodrome boards in South Wales with the prestigious national champion’s jerseys up for grabs.
The performance of the day went to Liv CC - Epic Coaching’s Anna Docherty and Pfeiffer Georgi who dominated the junior women’s Madison.
The duo won five of the eight sprints in the 80km race to take 30 points on their way to winning gold.
Silver went to Liv CC - Epic Coaching’s Lauren Dolan and Team Jadan Weldlife’s Jenny Holl, the only other pair apart from the race winners to take points on every single sprint as they took 24 points.
Cycle Engage UK’s Jessica Roberts and Sophie Williams secured bronze by winning the final sprint, worth double points, to take them to 17 points.
Team Corley Cycles' Ethan Vernon set a new national record in a sensational performance to win the junior individual pursuit title.
Vernon stopped the clock in 3:14.657, over seven seconds faster than silver medallist Fred Wright (VC Londres).
Bronze went to Bush Healthcare CRT's Rhys Britton who beat Swinnerton Cycles' Jake Stewart, crossing the line in 3:20.185.
Sprinting
Lauren Bate became junior women’s 500m time trial champion in a closely fought competition.
The Team Terminator rider stopped the clock on 35.748 seconds to win the title by more than a second.
Wolverhampton Wheelers’ Georgia Hilleard came second in 36.922 with Lusia Steele of Glasgow CT third in 37.143.
In the youth women’s sprint, Aleshia Mellor of Lyme RC won gold, beating Zoe Backstedt of Maindy Flyers Youth CC in the final 2-0.
It was a deserved win for Mellor, who had qualified fastest in 12.276 seconds.
Ella Barnwell of Towy RCC took bronze, beating Sophie Lewis (CC Ashwell) 2-0.
The new youth men’s sprint champion is James Bunting, who came from behind to beat Sportcity Velo’s Arthur Taggart 2-1.
Bunting, the fastest qualifier in 11.232, topped the podium after a thrilling sprint final.
Team Terminator’s Daniel Cooper won bronze, beating Jacob Dixon (Cadence Cycle Racing) 2-0.
