Mark Stewart rounded off the penultimate day of the European Junior and Under-23 Track Championships in stunning style with victory in the men’s omnium.

Four medals in all were to come the way of the Great Britain Cycling Team in Portugal, with Stewart’s omnium success the perfect way to complete the evening.

Ellie Dickinson also enjoyed a strong day in the omnium, picking up silver, while Lauren Bate in the keirin and Joe Truman in the sprint continued their own successful weeks with bronze medals.

That means Britain continue to boast the most medals, hitting the 20 mark with one day left on an impressive Championships in Anadia, with six of them being gold.

Taking top spot in the scratch opener, Stewart ensured his U23 omnium display was not going to fall by the wayside.

He took third in the tempo to maintain his lead after two events, and when victory in the penultimate elimination race was secured, the 21-year-old’s eyes began to light up gold.

And with his trademark determination, he finished in style ahead of Niklas Larsen of Denmark and France’s Adrien Garel, who picked up bronze.

The sole British silver of the day fell the way of Dickinson, who delivered a superb performance to take the runners-up spot in the U23 omnium.

She had to do it the hard way though, dramatically usurping Amalie Dideriksen in the closing stages as Elisa Balsamo from Italy took the victory.

More success had come earlier in the day as Truman – winner of gold, silver and bronze in Portugal – took third place in the U23 men's sprint.

That followed his 1km time trial silver as well as his gold in the team sprint, undoubtedly showing his need for speed on the track.

And there was also bronze for Bate in the keirin, just a day after winning bronze in the junior 500m time trial.
