It was announced last month that the HSBC UK National Cycling Centre - home of British Cycling and the Great Britain Cycling Team - will host the second round of the 2017-18 Tissot UCI Track World Cup series from 10-12 November.

The event - to be delivered by British Cycling in partnership with Manchester City Council and UK Sport through National Lottery funding - will see some of the world’s best track cyclists compete in front of large crowds and the BBC television cameras, and a host of volunteering opportunities are on offer in the competition, event support, event experience and hospitality teams.

Elinor Barker won gold for Great Britain Cycling Team in a captivating points race on the final day of the 2017 UCI Track Cycling World Championships.

Olympic and world champion, Elinor Barker, who was part of the Great Britain Cycling Team which topped the medal table in two of the 2016-17 Tissot UCI Track World Cup rounds, said: “The enthusiasm of the home crowds and the hard work and dedication of the volunteers always make competing in Britain a really special experience, and I’m sure this year's Tissot UCI Track World Cup in Manchester will be no different.

“The contribution that volunteers make to our sport is fantastic, and it really is appreciated by everyone within the Great Britain Cycling Team.”

British Cycling’s director of cycling, Jonny Clay, added: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the Tissot UCI Track World Cup series back to Manchester in November. We have a proud history of staging major international events, and our volunteer workforce has always made an invaluable contribution to this success.

“Cycling as a sport is indebted to the hard work that volunteers put in day-in, day-out, and we’re pleased to be able to offer the opportunity for people to volunteer at a major international event which will host some of the world’s finest track cyclists.”

Long-time volunteer, Dave Warburton, said: “Since first volunteering in 2013, I have continued to offer my help and support at many events ranging from track world cups, para-cycling events, BMX races and national championships.

“It has been a fantastic experience, making new friends, learning new skills and supporting the events in various roles and ensuring that the public have an enjoyable and worthwhile experience. I am really looking forward to the next world cup in November.”

Manchester City Council’s executive member for culture and leisure, councillor Luthfur Rahman, said: “Whether it's for the thrill of playing your part alongside the very best cyclists in the world, or to boost your CV with experience and new skills, I urge Manchester residents to get involved by volunteering to support this fantastic sporting event."
