Askey continues top form in 2017 British Cycling Youth Circuit Series

Friday afternoon saw the introduction of the Sleepwell Hotels Isle of Man Youth Tour 2017, with plenty of promising results to suggest a weekend undoubteldy worth looking out for.

In the under-16 boys race, Lewis Askey (RST Racing Team) - winner of the opening round of the British Cycling National Youth Circuit Series at Redbridge - continued his good form by winning the prologue in one minute, 44 seconds.

Oliver Rees (Albion Cycling Co) was just one second behind, and third place went to Alfred George (Discovery Junior Cycling Club), two seconds back on the winner.

Ella Barnwell (Team Backstedt/Hotchillee) was the under-16 girls prologue winner. Her time of 1:54 was two seconds faster than second placed Amelia Sharpe (Team RL360 Isle of Man) and third-placed Sophie Lewis (Cycle Club Ashwell CCA).

The under-14 girls prologue saw a 1-2-3 for the VMW Composite team. Zoe Backstedt won in 1m 58s, three seconds behind was Isabella Escalera, and third was Flora Perkins, seven seconds behind the winner.

Joshua Charlton (Hetton Hawks Cycling Club) will wear the yellow jersey on stage two in the under-14 boys category. He clocked 1:51, one second ahead of Max Poole (Bike Box Alan) and three seconds clear of Joe Kiely (Welwyn Wheelers CC).
