Welsh Cycling is pleased to announce the three teams selected for the Inter Regional Team Championships, taking place across the country this summer. A total of 17 youth riders will compete across road, track and mountain bike cross-country.
The Inter Regional Mountain Bike Championships take place 29 – 31 July at Cathkin Braes, Glasgow, the site of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games mountain bike competition. The Inter Regional Track Championships will be held at Wales National Velodrome, Newport 23-25 September.
The Inter Regional Road Championships will be incorporated into the 2016 School Games at Loughborough University 1-4 September. The School Games is the UK’s biggest multisport competition for young athletes where they experience competing alongside other sports, take part in the opening and closing ceremonies and benefit from workshop activities.
Ian Jenkins, Youth Programme Lead said: “I am pleased to see Welsh Cycling represented across all three Inter Regional Championships, and all the athletes will benefit from competing against the best youth cyclists in Britain.
Welsh Cycling take the young athletes to the Championships each year, not only to race, but to learn from competing in a high pressure competition environment. They will need to demonstrate self-sufficiency, a strong team ethic and discipline.”
The events are supported by volunteer team coaches who facilitate each team, ensuring youths thrive and perform at their best whilst maximising the learning experience.
