The summer is an ideal time to get people involved in our sport, and presents clubs with a great opportunity to run an open day to engage with the community and recruit potential new members. Llynfi Valley BMX Club opened their doors at the Maesteg Festival.

The Open Day gave local people the opportunity to try BMX racing for the first time. The club organised a BMX coaching session followed by time trial racing with some members of the Llynfi Valley BMX racing team. There were plenty of prizes on offer and everyone got the chance to compete and even saw a new lap record established for national BMX competitor Lee Sweetland.

There were lots of local children who were experiencing BMX for the first time, and eager to return to the club throughout the summer. The volunteers at the club supported the event and helped to inspire more young people to get into cycling.

The day is a great example of how clubs can involve the local community and promote themselves at the same time. Your club can get involved with our  Go-Ride Summer of Cycling or join us for I am Team GB day in August.
