Wednesfield Aces continued their run of good form in round four, moving to the top of the 2016 British Cycling Cycle Speedway Elite League Series table.

The Aces held off a challenge from Poole at the West Midlands track, while Horspath (Oxford) were dominating in their first win of the series away at Coventry.

There was not much between the two sides at Ashmore Park in the first half, with Poole coming from behind to briefly take the lead.

Exclusion for Poole's Australian rider, Ty Geertsen, in the final heat of the first half for excessive force gave Wednesfield some breathing room.

Wednesfield capitalised in the second period and managed to secure more heat advantages over the visitors to seal their second consecutive home victory by 105-90.

British rider Paul Heard topped the Wednesfield score sheet with 18 points, but it was a strong team effort, with the top 8 riders all contributing double figures.

Poole's captain Greg Gluchowski and Matiej Ganczarek both equalled Heard's score, while Geertsen scored well despite two exclusions.

In Coventry, Horspath were clinical, conceding just one heat out of 20 to the home side.

Coventry offered some resistance, squaring off 11 of the races, but could not make an impact on the meeting overall.

The Hammers got into an early lead with three heat advantages in the first four heats.

After that they controlled the meeting in a cool, calm and collected display from the former champions

Michal Sassek and Myke Grimes contributed big scores for Coventry, with 23 and 18 respectively, and were well backed up by Ben Higham bringing in 15.

Horspath's Mark Carmichael was in fine form, taking three straight wins in his first three rides.

He received excellent support from his team mates, with Lewis Osbourne, Lukas Nowacki and debutant Szymon Kowalczyk all bringing in the points.

Coventry sit out round 5, which gives Wednesfield and Ipswich the opportunity to claim top spot at the half way stage.

Both have tricky away trips, with the Aces heading to the Village to take on Horspath, while Ipswich are away at Poole.
