The Blue Peter track cycling challenge: Part one

Towards the end of 2015 we were approached by the team at Blue Peter to create a track cycling challenge for two of their presenters; Barney and Radzi.

Having worked with the programme back in 2013 to put together Barney’s Big Bike Challenge, we jumped at the chance to come up with an exciting competition to test the presenters’ skills on the boards.

With a little help from none other than Sir Chris Hoy, we devised a mini omnium and set the boys a training programme prepared by expert British Cycling coach, Charlie Evans. Barney and Radzi also met Derby-based Go-Ride Racers Tilly and Josh, who provided valuable advice and two very knowledgeable wheels to follow.

In this first instalment, see how Barney and Radzi get on during their first few sessions and hear from the boys on their experiences so far. You can also watch the presenters join a Go-Ride track cluster session where around 40 young riders from the North West joined together to improve their track cycling skills.

Part two will be available next week, where you can find out more about the big challenge and how the action unfolded. Requiring power, tactics and nerves of steel, the boys really stepped up to put on a great show. Miss it and you’ll miss out!
