Welsh Cycling Road Race Championships to return to Llandrindod Wells in June

The Welsh Road Race Championships will return to Llandrindod Wells Sunday 5 June 2016, with the addition of the Welsh Cycling Time Trial Championships on Saturday 4 June 2016 in nearby Rhayader.

The 2016 Welsh Cycling Road Race Championships will see the senior men complete five laps of the 17 mile circuit, totaling 85miles of racing. The circuit made for exciting racing in 2015, which was won by Stephen Williams, Pedal Heaven. As well as the overall title for the race winner, there will be awards for 2nd and 3rd Category winners.

The Welsh Cycling Road Race Championship will also decide the senior women’s title, the junior women, veteran over 40 women, veteran over 50 women, veteran over 40 men and veteran over 50 men championship titles in the 51 mile supporting race. The championship contenders will race over 3 laps of the same undulating 17 mile course in Llandrindod Wells.

The Welsh Cycling Junior Men's Road race Champion will be decided at the British Cycling National Junior Road Race Championships on Sunday 12 June in Chepstow, South Wales.

For 2016, there is also the addition of the Welsh Cycling Time Trial Championships taking place ahead of the road championships on Saturday 4 June. The 13 mile course will centre around Rhayader, Powys and will offer championship titles to senior men, senior and junior women and veteran men and women.

Welsh Cycling Chief Executive Officer Anne Adams-King said: “Welsh Cycling is looking forward to the Welsh Cycling Road Race Championships in June. The course in Mid Wales offered exciting racing in 2015, and will once again provide a spectacular backdrop to crown our Welsh champions this summer.

The addition of the time trial championship will extend the event to make it a thrilling weekend of cycling. I look forward to being at the event in June and seeing many of our members in Wales competing for the 2016 titles that are on offer.”

With more than 140 clubs and 5000 members in Wales, the Welsh Cycling Road Race Championships offer a great opportunity for the cycling community to come together and support the event.

The Welsh Cycling Road Race Championships is a closed event, where competitors must be eligible to compete for Wales by fulfilling the following criteria:

  • Born in Wales
  • Parent born in Wales
  • Lived in Wales for five years consecutively prior to the date of the event

Entry is via the British Cycling online entry system and will close on Sunday 15 May 2016. No entries will be accepted after this date, and there is no entry on the day of the race.
