Great Britain Cycling Team’s Abigail Dentus climbed to finish an impressive 14th in the junior edition of the Energiewacht Tour.

The 17-year-old was 12th on Saturday’s final stage, part of a 15-strong group that crossed the line one minute and 26 seconds back from Danish stage winner Pernille Mathiesen, who also won the overall general classification.

Ffion James was the team’s next highest finisher on the stage to Stadskanaal in 27th. Megan Barker was 35th with Rebecca Raybould 58th to bring an end to three days of racing in the Netherlands.

In the elite race, Lizzie Armitstead of Boels Dolmans Cycling Team was the best Briton in fourth in the penultimate stage of 117.4km.

Kirsten Wild took the stage honours while mountain biker Annie Last was Great Britain Cycling Team’s best-placed rider in 36th in a group seven minutes and four seconds back from the winner.

Emily Kay, 38th and Emily Nelson, 41st, both crossed the line in the same group as Last.

But the squad lost two riders as Manon Lloyd and Bethany Crumpton both did not finish as 36 riders abandoned during a day that saw challenging crosswinds.

The fourth and final stage of the elite race takes place on Sunday, a 105.9-kilometre journey ending in Goethestrasse.
