Roach and James crowned 2014 Welsh Cyclo Cross Champions

Steven Roach was crowned senior men’s Welsh Cyclo Cross Champion 2014, whilst Ffion James took the Women’s title on the course at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells.

John Lloyd Racing Ltd hosted the Welsh Cyclo Cross Championships on Sunday 7 December, where over 200 cyclists took part in the event from across Wales. The course, designed by John Lloyd, offered riders a technical course through the Royal Welsh Showground, and with overnight rain leaving the surface slippery the course became more challenging for riders.

In the Under 8s, Cian Evans, The Bulls took the win for the boys with Evelyn Nurse doing it for the girls. Alfie Davies, Cycle-Tec and Bethany Bennett, Sosban Riders were the winners in the Under 10s category with Joshua Tarling, West Wales Cycle Racing Team and Zoe Backstedt, Maindy Flyers Youth CC claiming the Under 12s Welsh Cyclo Cross Champion titles.

Under 14 boys saw Owain Roberts, Towy Riders crowned champion, whilst Nicole Clarke, Birkenhead North End CC took the Under 14 girls title. North Wales cyclist Simon Price, Marsh Tracks Race Team was crowned the Under 16 Boys champion.

Moving on to the Junior categories, Jacob Phelps, Cardiff Ajax CC took the Junior Men’s title whilst Ffion James took the Senior Women’s title.

Reigning champion Tim Davies, CC Abergavenny/JP Signs & Print took the Veteran Men 40-49 title, whilst Philip Roach, Team Jewson-M.I. Racing-Polypipe secured the Veteran Men 50+ title and Graham Edwards, Abergavenny Road Club clinched the Veteran Men 60+ title.

The Welsh Cyclo Cross League concludes Sunday 14 December at Mountain View Ranch, Caerphilly hosted by Maindy Flyers Youth CC.
