This weekend the 2013 Welsh Mountain Bike Champion will be crowned at the final round of the Welsh Mountain Bike Series. Over 150 riders are expected to compete at Margam Park, Port Talbot on Sunday 19 May.

The event is the Welsh Mountain Bike Series finale, encompassing the Welsh Mountain Bike Championships and the final mountain bike event in the Wiggle Project 2018 Race Series.

It is the second time the series has visited Margam Park this year, but there are some changes to the course used in February.

Scott Bugden, Welsh Cycling Mountain Bike coach said: “The course is similar to that used in round one earlier this year, but there is now the introduction of an extra loop which includes a fun descent for the riders to handle. It is sunny today in South Wales and although there are a few showers forecast this week I'm hoping that the course will be pretty dry and riding well on Sunday.”

The overall prize of a stay in Trawsfynydd Holiday Village is still up for grabs this weekend; details on how to win this exciting competition are below.

The final round will once again be supported by USN (Ultimate Sports Nutrition), the official nutrition partner of Welsh Cycling, they will provide prizes for all senior categories on the day. AnaNichoola will be supporting the women’s categories with prizes from their women’s specific cycling range of clothing. Tredz Bikes will also be supporting the Under 16 categories in Margam.

Catering will be provided by series supporter Scrumptious Catering, where refreshing drinks, light snacks and hot meals will be on offer.

Entry has now closed for those wishing to compete for a Welsh Championship title. Entry will still be available on the day for those wanting to compete as part of the Welsh Mountain Bike Series and the Wiggle Project 2018 Race Series.

Youth A and B riders are reminded to be eligible for the Wiggle Project 2018 Overall Champion title they must compete in at least one road, one track and one mountain bike event.

Trawsfynnyd Holiday Village Competition

Trawsfynnyd Holiday Village is just a few mins north of Coed y Brenin, just off the A470. Lovely log cabins and stunning views along with easy access to Snowdonia, the North Wales coast and all of the Mountain Biking in North Wales make it a fantastic place to stay, particularly for anyone who loves the outdoors.

Who can win?

The rider with the biggest winning time margin across any of the race categories will win this fantastic prize. The top three rides for each rider will count for the overall series prize and the cumulative time for the three races will be compared with the cumulative time for the top three rides from the rider in second place in the same category to give their winning margin.

Sounds complicated? It is! So we will be announcing the prize winner on Monday 20 May 2013 after 2.00pm in order to give us time to check all the results and make the calculations.

The Prize

The prize that Trawsfynydd have generously donated is a stay in one of their 2 bedroom log cabins between 21 September 2013 and 18 October 2013.

The stay will need to be booked by 20 June 2013 so the winner will have a month to make the booking.

The winner will be able to choose from either a 2 night weekend stay or a 4 night midweek stay.
