Welsh Cycling has unveiled new sponsors for the 2013 Welsh Mountain Bike Series (WMBS) who are helping to pave the way for its long-term future in Wales’ competitive mountain bike race calendar.

Official Nutrition Partner of Welsh Cycling, Ultimate Sports Nutrition (USN) will support the entire series, which comprises four rounds from February to May, providing prizes for the men’s and women’s categories. Clothing supplier AnaNichoola, who specialise in women’s specific cycle kit, will provide prizes for the top three women in each round and overall series prizes.

Meanwhile, Swansea-based Tredz Bike Store, Beics Brenin in Dolgellau and Cycle-Tec in Builth Wells are all among local businesses to join forces with Welsh Cycling to support the series, starting on Sunday 10 February at Margam Park.

Their support will add a unique flavour to each round, and will help to leave a positive footprint for other organisers, volunteers and officials to follow in future. It will complement the work by Welsh Cycling, in partnership with Fully Sussed, to create exciting races and circuits that challenge and reward riders.

Organiser of the WMBS, Scott Bugden, believes it’s a step forward to safeguarding the series’ continued place in Wales’ competitive mountain bike calendar: “It’s fantastic to see local bike shops with a range of knowledge, specialisms and experience, supporting local races.  Welsh Cycling is working hard to develop a sustainable and rewarding Welsh Series and sponsorship is absolutely vital to that. We are very grateful to all of the businesses involved for helping us make this a feature in this year’s MTB calendar, and hope that they will want to continue their involvement with the series in years to come.”

The Welsh Mountain Bike Series showcases three venues including Coed y Brenin, Fforest Fields and two stages at Margam Park.

The fourth round at Margam will also include the Welsh Mountain Bike Championships on Sunday 19 May.

Men’s and Women’s Prizes

USN, the Official Nutrition Partner of Welsh Cycling, will be providing a range of nutritional products for the Senior Men’s categories at the 2013 Welsh Mountain Bike Series.  USN provides Welsh Cycling with nutritional supplements and support for Welsh Cycling riders. Both USN and Welsh Cycling are working together to help the development and performance of cyclists in Wales at every level of the sport, which makes this an exciting partnership for both parties.

Meanwhile, AnaNichoola will supply prizes for the top three women in each round as well as the top three prizes in the series overall. AnaNichoola is heavily involved in promoting and developing women’s cycling and founder, Anna Glowinski, believes their support of the series is a good way to encourage more women to race off-road racing.

Tredz Bike Shop

Tredz Bike Shop will help to set the first round of the series in motion at Margam by offering mechanical support to riders throughout the race.  With a shop based near the venue in Swansea, and a sister-store in Cardiff, Tredz were an obvious choice to support the series. They will be on hand again at Fforest Fields, the final round.

Beics Brenin

Prizes at round two on Sunday 3 March at Coed Y Brenin will be supported by Beics Brenin. With an outlet close to the race venue, owner Joe Hayward is an experienced event organiser who has helped to boost cycling in the local area, and has generously offered to be part of the race volunteer team on the day.

John Lloyd MBE and Cycle Tec

Meanwhile, John Lloyd Racing and Builth Wells-based Cycle-Tec have joined forces to support the third round of the series on Sunday 21 April at the classic Fforest Fields venue. Series organisers believe John’s experience organising mountain bike marathon events across the UK will complement Cycle-Tec, who have decade of experience supporting events.
