UCI Track World Cup, Cali - Day 2

Published: 12 October 2012

Results - Day Three

The final day of action at the UCI Track World Cup saw Team SWI Welsh Cycling on the podium for a second time in their first competition.

Jon Mould bounced back from illness, which saw him withdraw from the Omnium on Friday, to compete in the 120 lap Points Race on Saturday evening. Jon was in a field of 21 riders, 2 of which didn’t complete the event. Over the 30km distance, Jon managed to gain 3 laps over the field, one of only 3 riders to do so, which secured him a bronze podium finish. Austria’s Andreas Graf took the gold.

An impressive ride by Jon bodes well for the start of Team SWI Welsh Cycling’s pathway to Commonwealth Games 2014, with the next stop being the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome for round 2 of the Track World Cup series.

It was the second day of competition for Elinor Barker in the Women’s Omnium. As she worked with the new race distances at senior level, she finished 5th in the Individual Pursuit and Scratch Race and 8th in the 500m TT. This was Elinor’s first attempt at the Omnium at senior level, where her overall results was 8th and she gained invaluable experience to take with her to round 2 in Glasgow in a few weeks’ time.
