Following the success of Team GBs Olympic training camp at the Wales National Velodrome, Newport is gearing up to welcome three Paralympic cycling teams to the city.

The ParalympicsGB, US Paralympics and Australian Paralympic teams will all use Newport’s Velodrome for their final preparations ahead of the Games starting on 29 August.

There will be a number of open sessions to watch the Australian para-cyclists train at the Velodrome with sessions on the following dates:

Monday 13 August: 2 – 5pm, Australian Paralympic team

Friday 17 August: 9am – 12pm, Australian Paralympic team

Thursday 23 August: 7pm – 10pm, Australian Paralympic team

You do not have to book in advance, just turn up on the day half an hour before the session is due to start.

Cabinet member for leisure and culture, councillor Debbie Wilcox, said: “Newport has been gripped by Olympic fever from the fantastic support Newport residents gave when the Olympic Torch visited to the tremendous reception that was given to Team GB track cyclists.

“Now that Paralympic teams are coming to use the Velodrome facilities in our city I am sure they will receive the same level of enthusiastic support. We look forward to welcoming the cyclists to Newport and wish them well with their final preparations and the Paralympics.”
