East Newport CSC Vs Poole

East Newport Cycle Speedway returned to South & South Wales league action this past Sunday 25th June at home to last season division one champions Poole.

On a well prepared circuit and on the hottest day of the year both teams battled it out in the three matches that was to follow division one, combination & conference.

The first race of the day in the division one encounter produced a drawn heat 5 - 5, heat two however saw an uncarristic fall from 2010 European u18 Bronze medallist "Ben Mould", heat three saw East Newport Captain "Neil Power" excluded for moving whilst under starters orders. So after the first three heats East Newport found themselves 6 points down 11 - 17. Heat 4 saw the first heat advantage for the home side with "Dan Bock" taking the win and "Dale Clark" taking 3rd place. The next two races 5 & 6 saw the home side bag in two 7-3s from "Corey B Jones" & "Aaron Hughes" pairing and "Neil Power" & "Aaron Herbert". One more heat advantage for the Welsh side put them 6 points up at the interval 47 - 41.

After a well earned half time break both sides came out on this blistering hot day to gain the two league points on offer.

Heat 10 resulted in a 5 - 5 with man of the match "Aaron Herbert" taking the win, heats 11 & 12 saw the East Enders record 2 more 6 - 4s which put them 10 points up 64 - 54. The young Poole side never gave up & with only three races to go were still in with a shout of winning this fixture trailing by 6 points 77 - 71 the pairing of "Hearn" & "Hook" in heat 16, & "Morgan" & "Glover" heat 17 new that heat advantages was a must to take it to a last heat decider. The East Newport pairings of "Power"/ "Hughes" & "Bock"/ "Clark" put paid to any chance of an away victory for the Poole outfit with a 6-4 & 5 - 5 respectfully. With the result of the last race heat 18 irrelevant "Herbert" took the win with partner "Mould" coming home in 4th place. Final score being East Newport 93 Poole 85.

Next up was the 8 heat combination match which resulted in a comfortable home win 50 - 30. Man of the match "Simon Bendon" was in fine form recording his first maximum for the Club. "Rob Absalom" recovered well after taking a nasty fall in his 2nd ride these 2 riders where backed up very well by Matt Davis, Colin Wildy, Josh Davis & making his Club debut "Jason Culter" who showed great promise.

Final action of the day was Conference league for riders under the age of 18. The East Newport Dragons were in determined mood to keep their chances of winning this division for the first time in the Club's history came home with a compressive victory 86 - 59. Ethan Greenslade showed what an improved rider he has become, by being awarded Man of the match.
