It was time for the road inter-regionals at the weekend and after success at both track and mountain bike in previous weeks, Scotland were raring to go.

The opening day of the competition saw teams from the 10 English Regions, Wales, Scotland and Ulster, compete in individual time trial events. In the girls event, Wales completely dominated, placing all 4 of their riders in the top 10. South East was a distant second and Scotland in third. The boys event was much closer with the South East just pipping the North West and Central.
Scotland finished the first day in fifth place; however the standings were close and therefore they were still in the frame for the final podium.
However, it was all to play for on the second day of the competition, Scotland proved themselves with Stirling Bikes Club’s Amber King coming 1st in the girls street sprint – 200m flat out side by side sprinting form a standing start, and then third in the leadout sprint – a flying start team sprint - simulating the final kilometre of a World Tour Road Race with riders peeling off a leadout train to deliver their sprinter to the finish!
The competition concluded on Sunday with the Road Races – Rhona Callendar of Stirling Bike Club coming in 3rd for girls and for Scotland.
In the overall standings, the top 4 places changed after each event – notably with Yorkshire’s performance in the boys race propelling them to gold medal position by mid-morning, only for Wales’s girls to pull them back in again to retake the top spot. Wales were therefore crowned the 2015 Inter-Regional Road Champions receiving the coveted gold medals for the best overall team performance over all 3 days of competition.
South East took the silver medals back home, and bronze went to Scotland – another fantastic podium spot across the various inter-regionals!
