This Sunday 31st May, the Scottish Cycling National Road Race Championships will take place in Ayr as part of the David Bell Memorial Road Race.

Nearly 100 of Scotland’s best cyclist’s riders will compete for the coveted Men and Women’s road race national titles. The David Bell Memorial Road Race, which has been running since 1966, is regarded as a ‘fearsome’ race with its reputation of tough climbs, technical descents and the odd bit of coastal wind! The ‘Pennyglen Coastal Loop’ will send the riders out of Alloway and Doonfoot along the stunning coast line past Dunure before tackling Croy Hill. They swing left at the Pennyglen Toll before the high speed technical descent into the finish area at Cambusdoon. The 17 mile loop will be tackled 3 times by the women and 5 by the men. With fantastic viewing points for spectators throughout the course both riders and cycling fans are in for a great day.

Both 2014 Champions, Evan Oliphant (Raleigh GAC) from East Lothian and Jane Barr (Velocity 44 Stirling) from Alloa will be there on the day to defend their titles.

Craig Burn, Scottish Cycling’s Chief Executive said: Scottish Cycling are delighted that the Scottish Cycling National Championships are taking place in Ayr. This is a chance for the best riders throughout the country to come together and compete for a coveted National Championship title on one of our many great courses we have here in Scotland.”

“Scottish Cycling would like to thank Ayr Roads Cycling Club for hosting the event as well as all the volunteers, officials and riders who make events like this possible.”
