In June this year, Scottish Cycling introduced an exciting new competition to reward the best performing Youth rider across the season.

The Shields, which will be awarded to the Youth riders who collect the most points from their finishing positions in the Youth A races at the Scottish National Youth Scratch Track Championship, the Scottish National Youth Road Race Championship and the Scottish National Youth Time Trial Championship, will be named in their memory – the William Stuart Memorial for the boys and the Chriss Stuart Memorial for the girls.

So far, the Youth riders have competed in two of the three Championship events and are currently preparing for the final edition; the 2017 Scottish National Youth Road Race Championship this Saturday, organised by Matthew Ball of West Lothian Clarion.

In the Girls event, there is all to play for, with four of the six riders competing at the weekend and almost all of them are in with a shout, if they ride well.  In the Boys event, there are 23 riders currently on the table and 26 taking to the tar mac of Ingliston to fight it out for the top spot at the Championship and valuable points on the table.  You can have a look at the current standings by clicking below;

You can find more information on the event here and if you would like to come along to support these aspiring young riders, then spectators are very welcome.  It’s a busy day including not only the National Youth Road Race Championship but also the National Criterium Championships for junior and senior riders.

The presentations of the shields to the overall winders will take place at the Scottish Cycling Roll of Honour presentation in February 2018.
