The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is to become host to the first ever Glasgow Sprint Grand Prix, bringing together world class riders from all across Europe to provide a family friendly, full day of racing.

Over the course of two days – Saturday 30th September to Sunday 1st October – the Glasgow Sprint Grand Prix, organised by Kenny Steele (Johnstone Wheelers), will showcase one of Glasgow’s most iconic sporting venues.

With British World and Olympic Champions already confirmed the Glasgow Sprint GP will awaken the memories of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games allowing fans and local riders alike to get up close and witness the high speeds of track cycling.

The race programme includes the cat and mouse tactics of Match Sprinting, the tension and explosive racing of the Keirin and the intrigue of Pursuit battles. Alongside this the programme will include Scotland’s first Paracycling Tandem racing since the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Olympic Champion Katie Archibald said:

"I’m really excited to race the Glasgow Sprint Grand Prix! The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome always manages to whip up an amazing atmosphere and it promises to be a great day out for all the family. I hope people can come out and support Scotland’s next generation of cyclists!"

As well as providing top level racing for some of the world’s best riders, the Glasgow Sprint Grand Prix will help to ensure the legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.  In conjunction with Scottish Cycling, there will be Wattbike testing in the stands. This allows spectators to compare themselves against the riders on the track!

David Daniell, Scottish Cycling Sprint Coach said:

“Scottish Cycling aims to provide opportunities for everyone who wants to get on a bike to be able to do so. Wattbike testing enables us to help people identify their potential in cycling, as well as it being fun and challenging to try and beat the professionals. We will also give advice and support for new and potential riders who want to get into the sport, and the Glasgow Sprint GP is a great place to do this. Come along and discover your power!”

With an affordable ticketing structure, the Glasgow Sprint Grand Prix offers a full day out for all the family. At £20 for a family (2 adults, 3 kids), £6.50 for adults, and £4 for children, it is the cheapest opportunity to watch your Olympic heroes live on the track!
