This weekend (Saturday 12th August) we will see some more Scottish National Champions crowned – this time in the Team Time Trial in Forfar.

Promoted by Spokes RT, the event is becoming more popular with a full entry of male teams and a growing number of ladies teams. It is a real team event, and banks on on everyone pulling their weight to get to the finish.

The ladies of course have it harder, they have to start and finish with a team of three, the men start with four, but only have to get three to the finish. Last year Dunfermline CC lost a rider on the start line and the year before in Fife, Falkirk BC got split up on the way to the start and ended up riding as two twos!

In years gone by the Team Time Trial used to be run over 100km (60 miles) but interest in this length of event slowly declined and now the event is 64km (40 miles) long.

The Time Trial starts on the A932 on the edge of Forfar, proceeds to Froickheim, left onto the A933 towards Brechin and then left onto the B9113 back to Forfar, past the finish, turn left onto A932 and then complete a second lap before crossing the line.

On the day 121 riders will be taking to the start line, seven ladies teams and twenty-five men’s teams so it is set to be a busy day with some good competition.

Why should you come along and spectate?

There are not many Team Time Trials, especially for four up’s on the calendar and it’s a chance to see teams working together. Come along and see those who have trained and those who haven’t….!
