Scottish Cycling West Newsletter October 2015

Autumn is finally here, nights are drawing in, lights are going on bikes and thick winter clothing is being looked out! We’ve had a month of planning, with good progress along the Datefixing process and plans for four strong regional race series formulated. It’s also been a month of opportunities for coaches to do CPD, youths and juniors to get to RACE coaching sessions and Track League has started back up for the winter.

Here’s what’s been going on in the West…

Regional Development Group Updates

The next regional development group meeting will be held on Monday the 9th of November, where updates will be provided on that status of items in the regional plan.

Full minutes will be uploaded following the meeting.

Regional Event Organiser Meetings

Following on from the date fixing process, we will now be holding meetings to determine the series format and regulations for the 2016 regional race series’. These meetings are open to the organising clubs of those events, however if you have suggestions and input, please email these to Morven.brown@Scottishcycling.org.uk

Youth Event organisers meeting – 11th November at 6.30pm

Road event organisers meeting – 24th November at 6.30pm

Event Organiser Meeting

All event organisers have the chance to come to a meeting on 10th November to listen to an update on the process, ask any questions and find out the proposal for the National Road Race Series.

West of Scotland Presentation Evening

A busy and successful presentation evening was held for the three 2015 regional series’ which celebrated the achievements of the podium placers in the Dirt, Crit and Road Race series.

Events - Past

The Cumbernauld Centurions hosted this year’s BMX Scottish Open 2015 on the 3rd & 4th October 2015. Scottish National titles for 2015 were also up for grabs.

Strathclyde Park Cyclocross!

East Kilbride RC are hosting the third round of the Scottish Cyclocross series at Strathclyde Park this Sunday. Entries have closed with over 400 competitors entered, so head along and watch some great racing!

The West Dunbartonshire Schools MTB competition is open to kids at schools in West Dunbartonshire and takes place this November!

Winter BMX Series!

The Cumbernauld Centurions have announced details of their Winter Series of BMX racing which will be held at Broadwood BMX track.

Youth RACE Sessions

There are still spaces left on the two upcoming West Youth RACE Coaching sessions – both for riders and coaches/helpers. The MTB Session sign ups close this weekend, with the session being led by National MTB Coach Paul Newnham.

Coach CPD Opportunities

Cycling Performance - UNDERSTANDING POWER

Understanding power provide coaches and riders with the knowledge required to monitor and evaluate performance in training and racing using a power meter with the aim of improving their coaching or training practice

TPU 101 is an introductory course designed to teach coaches how to effectively use the TrainingPeaks to plan, monitor, evaluate and analyse training

Glasgow Cycle Speedway club held their club Championships in October, they’re keen to welcome new members to try out the fast paced and exciting world of cycle speedway.

British Cycling Club Management Tool

All affiliated clubs have access to the following functions of the club management tool:

  • Membership database – Email all members quickly and easily, remind members their fees are due
  • Membership information – stats on numbers and break downs with types of membership
  • Ability to collect membership
  • Ability to set up club website
  • Ability to produce club newsletters

Dates for Diaries

SC West Youth Cycling Council

A new youth cycling council has been launched in SC West, which will allow youngsters the opportunity to get involved with cycling and help shape and develop their sport. The meeting is for Youth A and 2nd year Youth B riders and will take place on the 19th of November at 6.30pm.

Partner Updates

Renfrewshire Community Sports Awards 2015 

Sportscotland in partnership with RL Leisure, Renfrewshire Council and The Gazette, Barrhead News, Your Radio and Paisley People have launched the brand new Renfrewshire Community Sport Awards 2015. 

The Renfrewshire Community Sports Awards 2015 will recognise the efforts across 11 categories. The awards panel are looking for nominations for the awards across a range of categories including sports personality of the year, coach of the year and lots more - so if you feel you know someone deserving of recognition then this is your chance to put them forward.

Glasgow Sports Person of the Year Awards 2015

Glasgow Sports Person of the Year Awards 2015 will take place on Friday 19th February 2016 at Glasgow City Chambers.

These awards are an opportunity to celebrate some of the best athletes, coaches and volunteers in the city and recognise their achievements.

Nominations are now being sought across all the categories, with many riders and volunteers in the world of cycling highly deserving of such a nomination.
