SportsAid Scotland, and their sponsors the Robertson Trust, will once again be offering support to some of Scotland’s most promising young cyclists in 2022.

Amongst the supported riders is BMX Racing rider Cameron Reid. Reid is one of the best up and coming BMX racers in the UK, with several wins under his belt in 2021 at junior level; 2022 sees the Scot take the step up to senior level.

Another beneficiary is track sprinter Ellie Stone who recently claimed two victories at the British Track Championships last month in the Women’s Keirin and 500m TT respectively. Her standing 500m time of 34.529 seconds in Newport was enough to not only claim gold but reach a qualifying standard for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Emily Carrick-Anderson has relished her first season as a junior in cyclocross, winning the Scottish national title as well as making her debut at UCI World Cup events in Belgium, and she too will be supported in 2022. Second overall in the British Junior National CX Trophy series, the multi-discipline rider has made a great start to her mountain bike season winning the opening round of the British Cross Country series.

After many strong seasons in the mountain bike scene, 22-year-old Sean Flynn moved to Europe to pursue a road racing career last year and has continued to forge that path in 2022, moving to the UCI Continental outfit Swiss Racing Academy. Having already claimed victory in a stage of the Tour of Istria, as well as posting several top 10 finishes including in UCI stage races in Croatia and Belgium, Flynn has shown he deserves support to try and go all the way in the sport.

Speaking of their continued support for Scottish cyclists, Roddy McKenzie, Chief Executive of SportsAid Scotland, said:

“We're more than happy to support Scottish Cycling once more, in partnership with The Robertson Trust. We know only too well that financial backing is hard to achieve in sport, but these young cyclists have earned our support through their hard work and outstanding achievements.

“We have supported many athletes in different sports who have gone on to represent Scotland at Commonwealth Games and Great Britain at Olympic Games and I have no doubt many of the cyclists we support this year will continue that tradition.

“The Robertson Trust have been our longest standing sponsors and are based in Glasgow and reach out to a lot of charities – you can find out more info on them from their website.”

Head of Performance and Coaching at Scottish Cycling, David Somerville, said:

“2022 poises to be a fantastic year for our performance athletes with the Commonwealth Games taking place in Birmingham this summer, as well as UCI World Cup events coming to Scotland in BMX Racing, Downhill MTB and on the track.

“It’s great to welcome additional financial support for our athletes from our partners at SportsAid Scotland and their sponsors the Robertson Trust – thank you for your continued financial support.”
