Last year we were celebrating from the trails as Scots Grant Ferguson (CST American Eagle) and Greg Williamson (Cube Global Squad) dominated the British mountain bike scene, winning the British Cross Country Mountain Bike Championship and British Downhill Mountain Bike Championship titles respectively, on the same weekend.

Can they do it again?

With both championships falling on the same weekend again this year, the cross country in Cannock Chase, England and the downhill in Rhy-Y-Felin, Wales, it is a possibility.

But they aren’t the only Scots heading to the events with the aim to stand on the podium this weekend.

Kerry MacPhee (Rock and Road) and Jane Barr (Velocity 44 RT) will be competing in the Senior category at the Cross-Country Championships – with Isla Short (OMX Pro Team) and Ella Conolly (100% ME) hoping for podium positions in the Under-23’s.

Grant Ferguson will be the only Scot representing in the Senior Men, however Iain Paton (Leslie Bike Shop/ Bikers Boutique) and Mark McGuire (100% ME) will be riding in the Under-23’s.

23 others Scots will also be heading to the cross-country aiming high – and with the current trend of Scottish success at the British Mountain Bike Series we have no doubt we will see some hands in the air.

There will be strong Scottish representation at the British National Downhill Championships in Wales too this weekend, with 13 Scots making the journey south; 8 of which are in the Junior, Youth and Juvenile categories – some future stars in the discipline.

Alongside defending champion Greg Williamson in the Elite/Expert Male category is Fife’s Kris Gemmell (Leslie Bike Shop/ Biker’s Boutique) and Drew Carters from West Linton.

Racing against multiple World Cup winner and defending champion Rachel Atherton in her home country will be Scots Deborah Primrose (Leslie Bike Shop/ Biker’s Boutique) and Elena Melton (Female Riders Race Team.)
