Eleven of some of Scotland’s most talented riders have been chosen to represent British Cycling at the Senior and Junior Academy during 2015/2016.

Jonathan Mitchell and Jack Carlin have been chosen to join the Senior Track Sprint Team, and Mark Maguire, the Senior Mountain Bike Team. Iain Paton and Mark Stewart have retained their places in the Mountain Bike and Men's Endurance respectively.

We managed to catch up with Jonathan Mitchell before he headed down to Manchester to find out a bit more about being a track sprinter and how the support from Glasgow Riderz and Scottish Cycling have helped him get to where he is:

Members of the Senior Academy will now undergo a two-week boot camp in Manchester, giving them their first introduction to life as part of the Great Britain Cycling Team.

This will include an orientation activity in Manchester to help them familiarise themselves with the city as well as sessions covering subjects such as anti-doping, nutrition, health and well-being, bike maintenance and psychology.

It has also been confirmed that the squad will have access to a European training base in Montichiari, Italy from January 2016. The riders that will be using the new facility will also have the option of taking Italian lessons, to prepare them for spending time in the country.

Joining the Junior Academy from Scotland are Joe Nally (men’s endurance), Lewis Stewart and Amber King (track sprint) and Rhona Calendar and Jenny Holl (women’s endurance.) Retaining a place is Ella Conolly in the MTB XC team.

The Junior Academy will begin their induction process on October 28.
