Scottish Cycling, with the help of Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland and local partners – Angus Cycle Hub, Ancrum Outdoor Centre, Dundee Active Schools and Dundee City Council, is looking to encourage new recruits to the world of volunteering and give something back to mountain biking.

Scottish Cycling through a partnership with HSBC UK and British Cycling, have selected Dundee to be the first city in Scotland to pilot a Level 1 MTB centre which can be used by schools, community groups, cycling clubs and promoted to members of the public.

The plan is to recruit new volunteers to work with local organisations and gain experience of good practice at HSBC UK Go Ride October holiday camp and after school sessions, which will be running from October till early December.

After gaining experience working alongside professionals, the volunteers will:

• Be trained in Level 2 Leadership, bike mechanics and undergo their Level 2 Leadership assessment.

• Will support local organisations to set up a Scottish Cycling Level 1 centre and assist them inducting new Level 1 Leaders.

There will then be a further two blocks of professional sessions before a supported transition to local organisations to continue delivery.

Scottish Cycling’s Mountain Bike Leadership Development Officer, commented

“Cycling is an incredibly exciting sport to be a part of and through this HSBC UK Go Ride project the volunteers will be at the forefront of creating new riders. We have secured sportscotland funding to put the volunteers through their qualifications and there will be a lot of support for new volunteers provided through our local partners. So we welcome anyone who has an interest and experience in mountain biking to come forward and help spread the love.”

No previous volunteering experience is necessary, just a passion for riding bikes!
