On Saturday 4th June, 67 riders between the ages of 8 and 16 made the trip to the Nevis Range – but not just to watch the UCI Fort William Downhill Mountain Bike World Cup, but to compete in the Scottish Cycling Mini Downhill event after several qualifying rounds.

The riders, competing across four age categories, raced on a shorter but very technical downhill track, just meters from where the World Cup riders were racing to qualify.

Stirling Bike Clubs Charlie Aldridge took first place in the Under-16 Boys race with less than a second lead from Keir Gibson. In the Under-16 Girls, Polly Henderson, Female Riders Race Team, took a significant lead ahead of second and third place – Tea Jensen, Leslie Bike Shop and Katie Purvis respectively.

In the Under 12s William Brodie from KICC and Emily Carrick-Anderson from Peebles CC took the top podium spots for the Boys and the Girls categories.

Under-10 Harry Hemingway top 1st place in his category, closely followed by Leo MacKintosh, Wolfpax Riders, and Sandy Mackay in second and third place.  Heather Wilson, Wolfpax Riders, took a clear lead in the Under-10 Girls race to secure her top podium place.

All podium winners were presented with their prizes on the World Cup stage by Scottish Cycling President Alasdair MacLennan and street trials pro rider, and YouTube video sensation, Danny Macaskill, who was at the event to perform his Drop and Roll Tour.
