For the 2nd week in a row the Falcons travelled to Stockport on Sunday (27th June) for Cycle Speedway action. This time for the five team Northern Knock Out Cup Final, with the Falcons eventually picking up 2nd place overall.
With Polish star Robert Bandosz unavailable, manager Steve Gilroy drafted in replacement Paul Kelly to compliment Mike Hewitson, Jake Slight and Craig Newsome.
Over the 20 heat format the Falcons started brightly and at the half way stage were leading Stockport by one point with Hull, Heckmondwike and Bury fighting it out for 3rd place.
A slightly disappointing 2nd set of 10 heats witnessed a turnaround in fortunes with the Falcons losing out to eventual winners Stockport by nine points.
Mike Hewitson top scored for the Falcons with a four ride 16 points maximum and was well supported from Jake Slight with 13 points. Paul Kelly scored a very respectable 8 points belying is lack of experience at the this level of competition. Craig Newsome finished on 7 points from his two completed rides with a fall an exclusion in his other two.
