Scottish Athletes Iain Paton and Lucy Grant make it onto British Cycling Mountain Bike Olympic Development Programme.

Iain Paton (Ben Wyvis Cycling Club) and Lucy Grant (Peebles Cycling Club) have both been selected to be part of the British Cycling Mountain Bike Olympic Development Programme. Paton who is ranked 4th in the UK and hails from Golspie in the Highlands moves into his second year as a Junior whilst Lucy Grant who is the current British Youth champion moves from Youth to Junior in 2013.

Scottish Cycling’s mountain bike coach Paul Newnham commented

“It is great to see Scottish riders progress through the performance pathway and move onto the Olympic Development Programme (ODP). The Olympic Development Programme will give them the skills they need to move forward as athlete’s and develop into world class mountain bike racers. With the Commonwealth Games taking place in Glasgow (2014) on the horizon and the recent addition of a full time junior coach at British Cycling it is an exciting time for mountain biking both in Scotland and the UK."

A squad of eight athletes were selected to receive the assistance of the ODP until November 2013 when applications will be accepted again.
