Unchained Mag, a Scottish based Social Enterprise launches today aiming to provide readers with family friendly content covering all disciplines of cycling. Promoting and supporting companies and organisations that are driving social change within the cycling industry.
Glasgow based husband and wife team, Michelle and Fraser Jeffcott, both 29, developed their idea for the cycling magazine when they secured a place within Scotland’s first free business accelerator, Entrepreneurial Spark, in January 2012. Unchained Mag was born from a passion for cycling and having two young children themselves, Michelle and Fraser understood how difficult it can be to please everyone in the family when it comes to cycling. Unchained aims to help Scotland’s continual fight with obesity in children by promoting cycling to families and the benefits on offer.
Fraser has competed in races, most recently the Mega Avalanche in Alpe d’Huez and Michelle is also a keen mountain biker. Michelle states “we want to inspire women as much as men and educate and inspire families to get out cycling. Scotland is renowned for its Mountain biking and cycling. But not enough people take advantage of what’s on offer. Cycling is a fantastic way to experience the outdoors, spend time as a family and get fit!”
Michelle commenting on the magazines social enterprise status, “We want to promote communities cycling initiatives. We understand the importance of looking after the environment – cycling can help reduce congestion, gives people more opportunity for exercise and cycling can play a big part in the fight against climate change so let’s get Scotland cycling!”
On this front Unchained recently supported www.biggestjourney.com in a fundraising event and have become ambassadors for www.riderdowntrust.com Michelle and Fraser are keen to help support charities and organisations and are open to hearing from people who think they would benefit from promotion within the magazine.
Talking about Entrepreneurial Spark Michelle states “We feel very lucky to have been part of E-Spark. It was a rollercoaster six months; we learned so much and met some amazing people who will continue to be part of Unchained’s journey”
