This Saturday (19th May) a big day of sports action starts at Redbraes Park in Leith as Cycle Speedway Celtic Cup action returns to the capital for 2012. Tapes up at 12 noon.

As Edinburgh's big two football teams compete for the Scottish Cup in Glasgow, back in Edinburgh the Ireland, Scotland and Wales Cycle Speedway teams will take to the track for a one off three team tournament to be staged over a 27 heat format.

Wales, who are the current holders of the Alistair G Kennedy trophy, will again start as favourites.

Scotland Team Manager Gav Kennedy has been robbed of the services of a couple of home Edinburgh stars but has reminded everyone this leaves open the door for others to stake a claim for a more permanent role.

Ireland have also named an understrength team but still have a wealth of experience to call upon and have several riders who race the Redbraes track as if it were their own. Ireland Team Manager Gary Colby will be hoping his team can stay competitive right until the end.

As for Wales, they have decided to remain quietly confident and will not be naming their team until match day. Does this hide selection problems for Wales Manager Nicky Evans? We will no doubt find out on Saturday.

There has been several days of constant rain in the Edinburgh area over the last few days which is giving the track staff some extra work. However, everyone will be hoping for Sunshine on Leith come Saturday afternoon.
