We are deligthed to reveal that the 2022 Scottish National Cyclocross Championships (#SCNatChamps) will return to Camperdown Country Park in Dundee for the second consecutive year, as part of the the SCX Series, which makes a welcome return this winter.

Taking place on Sunday 13th November, the National Cyclocross Championships will look to build on a brilliant 2021 edition, where Scottish Cycling performance programme athlete Anna Flynn (Edinburgh RC) took gold in the women’s event, before Charles Fletcher claimed the men’s title, as the grounds of the old golf course came alive with action.

We are also delighted to see the return of the Scottish Cyclocross Association (SXC) series for 2022-23 after a two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.

The SCX Series will kick off on 18 September on the Black Isle in Muir of Ord and will include some exciting new courses - such as Ballantrae Beach and Brechin - offering a mixture of terrains and surely something to challenge every rider.

With previous SCX round winners including UCI World Cup rider Cameron Mason and Team Scotland’s Isla Short and Charlie Aldridge, the series has provided Scottish riders with great opportunities for local elite cyclocross racing.

On the return of the series, Howard Perkins, SCX Committee Chair said:

“At our AGM earlier this year we said our number one priority was to reinstate the SCX Series so I’m immensely grateful to the organisers who have committed to putting on the series races announced today. We are hopeful of adding even more races to give a varied season long competition across Scotland".

Scottish Cycling Chief Executive Nick Rennie agreed stating:

“It’s fantastic to welcome the Scottish CX Series back for 2022-23. I congratulate SCX Committee for all their hard work in ensuring that we will see a full Cyclocross series post-pandemic. I would like to thank our fantastic team of event organisers across the country, who do an excellent job in making sure that our range of cyclocross events are improving year-on-year, while still remining fun and accessible to all. This year is no different with some new courses in Brechin and Ballantrae Beach as well as some old favourites such as Kinneil X in Bo’ness.

On the return of the National Championship to Dundee, Rennie added:

“It will also be great to return to Camperdown Park, as I know that last year’s Scottish National Cyclocross Championships were a fantastic success, so hopefully we will see another excellent Championship event in Dundee this November.”

SCX 2022-23 confirmed dates are as follows:

  1. Muir of Ord - 18 September
  2. Brechin - 16 October
  3. Ballantrae Beach - 30 October
  4. Dundee  - 13 November - #SCNatChamps
  5. Kinneil X - 27 November

Further rounds will be announced in the coming weeks, while details such as entries and spectator information will be announced in due course.

Alongside planning a new SCX Series, the SCX Association has been working with organisers to identify and support other grass-roots cyclocross races across Scotland - you can find these here. We can support races in a number of ways, from timing contracts to tracking down race equipment, so if you are thinking of putting on a race this season, we want to hear from you - please get in touch with us hello@scottishcx.org.uk
