We at Scottish Cycling, along with our colleagues in British Cycling and Welsh Cycling have a passion to enable and facilitate more and more children and young people gain access to cycling activity and to experience the joy of riding or racing their bike.

Through schools, clubs, activity providers and at home we are working together to re-shape our offer to ensure all children have access to these experiences. We believe that cycling is a fantastic vehicle for personal development, building skill and confidence and developing a lifelong love of being active and are looking forward to working with stakeholders to determine the direction for Scottish Cycling programmes aimed at children and young people.

What are the aims of the project?

This project is the initial phase in the development of a Skills Award, aimed at children and young people. The skills award is envisaged to develop cycling confidence and skill that will be applicable for those learning to ride, looking to develop specific skills, ride with confidence on the road or taking their first steps into club or racing activity.

What are we asking of club coaches?

As part of our discovery work, we are asking that relevant club coaches involved in delivery of cycling activity to children and young people engage in a group conversation with members of Scottish Cycling staff to discuss your experiences, positive outcomes, and barriers to delivery of cycling activity to children and young people within a club environment. We are seeking views from a wide range of clubs, not just those that have traditionally been affiliated to the Go-Ride programme.

How will your input shape our offer?

All the discovery work we are doing will feed into shaping our offer for clubs and children and young people more broadly. We aim to use this feedback to develop a range of opportunities, that can be delivered by clubs and more widely to engage children in cycling activity and allow them to see the next steps in their development as appropriate.

How can you get involved?

We are holding a facilitated discussion on Zoom on Thursday 27th May from 1900-2030, you can sign up for this via the link below
