While Scottish Cycling welcome the latest changes from the Scottish Government, announced on Tuesday 13 April, which ease the travel restrictions for meeting people outdoors and for ‘informal exercise’, we share the disappointment of our members that ‘organised activity’ does not come under these latest relaxations

This means that organised cycling groups and clubs, as well as our organised recreational programmes, are still required to stay within the boundaries of their local authority throughout the duration of their ride.

Commenting on the restrictions, Sophie McCall, Head of Development and Participation said: “Our clubs and groups, along with our coaches and leaders, have been working hard to ensure that they have the appropriate processes and procedures in place to run COVID-19 safe activities. So, we are disappointed that our club and group activity is still limited by these travel restrictions, resulting in riders being unable to fully enjoy the multiple benefits which our clubs and groups have to offer.

“Scottish Cycling continues to be in regular dialogue with sportscotland about the Scottish Government guidance.

“Clubs and groups play a crucial role in the physical and mental health of their members, and we understand the impact which these restrictions continue to have on their ability to deliver activity which can be accessed by all.”

The latest guidance from Scottish Cycling can be seen here, and we urge all our clubs, groups and members to continue to follow this guidance. We also ask for patience until travel restrictions are eased further, which we expect to be on 26 April 2021.
